Prekäres Urteil : zum Zusammenhang von Vorsehung und Skepsis im Denken Edmund Burkes

Abstract

Der Anspruch der Arbeit besteht darin, das Verständnis des politischen Urteils im Denken des angloirischen Unterhausabgeordneten Edmund Burke näher zu bestimmen. Damit reagiert sie auf die Frage, in welchem Verhältnis sich Burkes erkenntnistheoretische Voraussetzungen und seine umfassende Politik- und Moralvorstellung befinden. Das politische Urteil, so die These, lässt sich nur angemessen unter Rückgriff auf Burkes skeptische Motive und die Rolle der Vorsehung in seinem Denken verstehen. Wie die Arbeit aufzeigt, haben beide Vorannahmen einen großen Einfluss auf das politische Urteil, denn sie prekarisieren dieses.Methodisch orientiert sich die Untersuchung an Kernüberlegungen der sogenannten Cambridge School.

The aim of the work is to define the understanding of political judgment in the thinking of the Anglo-Irish Member of the House of Commons Edmund Burke in more detail. In doing so, it responds to the question of the relationship between Burke's epistemological presuppositions and his comprehensive conception of politics and morality. According to the thesis, political judgment can only be adequately understood with recourse to Burke's skeptical motives and the role of providence in his thinking. As the thesis shows, both presuppositions have a great influence on political judgement, because they precarize it. Methodologically, the study is based on core considerations of the so-called Cambridge School.
